What does it cost for two weeks in Germany?

Your budget for two weeks in Germany will vary largely upon your tastes, travel style and the type of accommodation you choose. When planning our first trip, one question we asked was “What does it cost for two weeks in Germany?” Below we have listed some of our actual expenses to help you to plan your trip to Germany.

When we travel to Berlin, we are fortunate to be able to stay with family, however we do then tend to spend more on meals and attractions as we “shout” our family on our sightseeing trips in return.

When we travel, we look for budget hotels in the city, close to attractions with breakfast included. A big breakfast in the morning means we can then have a lighter lunch.

Below I have outlined some of our actual costs from our two weeks in Germany, which we hope will be helpful in planning your travel budget for Germany. The only exception is accommodation for Berlin and Munich, where we stayed with family. I have researched the cost of an hotel we would otherwise stay in.

  • Berlin – Ibis Mitte  5 nights breakfast included two people AUD 648  EU 417
  • Dresden – Ibis town centre. One night breakfast included 4 people AUD 184 EU 118
  • Prague – Brix Hostel– 2 nights private room for 2 people AUD 58.
  • Munich – Ibis hotel town centre breakfast included 2 people AU 1004 EU646

When visiting Freiburg at the start of our four week road trip, we chose more upmarket accommodation at a spa resort outside the town, which is at the other end of the budget scale.

  • The most cost effective option before visiting Berlin is to purchase a “Berlin Welcome Card” . This provides you with unlimited transport in and around Berlin for five days – including Potsdam and free entry into up to 30 attractions for AUD 65 or EU 41.50 each.  Most larger cities and towns will have a similar offer.
