G’day and thanks for stopping by our page, where we hope you can find some inspiration for planning your next trip.
You can’t beat local knowledge when planning any trip. Having lived and travelled in Australia for over 50 years, we hope to bring you some practical information to help you plan holiday. Whether you are looking for travel budgets, packing lists, or that unusual travel destination, we try to share our local knowledge and experiences with our readers on these pages.
About Ian and Lesley

We are a couple of semi-retired Australian “empty nesters” living on the East Coast of Australia. When the five kids were at home, we loved travelling. From family camping holidays and road-trips around Australia, to a few overseas holidays, we loved exploring new places.
We have lived in Victoria and New South Wales Australia all our lives and have travelled through most of eastern Australia. So we have lots of helpful local knowledge to share with our readers who are planning a trip to Australia.
Western Australia and the Northern Territory are the two states we are looking forward to exploring.
Now the children have all left home and are exploring the world themselves, we finally have the chance to do so.
With family living overseas, we also have a great excuse to travel to Europe fairly often and experience new cultures. We can also now take advantage of the kids’ “local knowledge” when travelling through Europe.
Lesley is a former journalist, combining her passions for travel and writing with Ian’s love of photography to record some of the finer and unusual details of the places we visit.
On these pages we share with you some of the amazing places we have visited, experiences we have had along the way and practical information which we hope will help you in researching and planning your own trip.
These pages are meant to entertain, provide ideas on some great travel destinations and to share our experiences.
If you require expert travel advice, you should consult a travel agent.

Travel Stories
When researching our first European holiday, we found there was very little specific information available to us. We really could have done with a little “local knowledge”.
Which is why we are sharing our “local knowledge” of eastern Australia, to help fellow over 50’s planning a trip to Australia. We hope our Australian stories will be useful for those planning their big trip “Downunder” and help them to avoid some of the common mistakes visitors to Australia make.
We also share some of our experiences travelling
overseas. We found that researching and planning your own overseas holiday doesn’t need to be expensive or difficult.
In our travel tips section you’ll find information on trip planning, budgets, packing and travel accessories to give you an idea of the things you need to think about and research when planning your trip. You of course will need to decide what information is right for you.
Empty Nester Stories

Here we share the stories of the daily life of over-50’s. From the challenges of embracing the rapidly changing modern technology to the family and life issues facing empty nesters.
We share some of our budgeting tips and other money matters to help fellow over 50s save for that dream holiday and set a realistic budget. This is not financial advice, but simply sharing our own experiences to assist others planning their trips. Just a little serendipity on our daily life, which we hope our fellow Empty Nesters might find entertaining.
